Rohde has 15 years of experience performing the no scalpel
procedure. He was the instructor for the procedure at the SIU
Family Medicine Residency Program for 13 years and trained both
resident physicians and practicing colleagues in the technique.

| No Scalpel Vasectomy History |
| The no-scalpel vasectomy
is a simple, gentle, and elegant office procedure
developed in China in 1974
by Chinese surgeon Dr. Li
Shunqiang.
Americans have taken to this
procedure as a simple, fast method of permanent birth control.
Did you know that there are over 500,000 vasectomies performed
annually in North America alone?
With this new approach there
is no knife, no cutting incision and no stitches. Men who
have undergone no-scalpel vasectomy express amazement at the
minimal physical discomfort they experienced both during the
procedure and during recovery.
Instead of using a scalpel to
make two small cuts in the scrotum, as in the conventional
vasectomy, I use a special sharp instrument to make a tiny
puncture in the scrotum to work through. This opening is about
1/4" and requires no stitches to close. |

THE NEEDLE - In a further refinement of the
procedure I am able to provide local anesthesia without a
needle - I use a jet injector or "hypospray" (just like on Star
Trek!!) to put the numbing medicine where it needs to be - right
through the skin - again with minimal discomfort to you!! You
get to choose your method of anesthesia! |

| Making an
Appointment |
| When you have decided on a
vasectomy as your preferred method of permanent birth control,
you may simply call the office for an appointment time for a
Pre-vasectomy consultation where I will discuss the procedure
in detail so you can make an informed decision. I like for you
to bring along your partner so she will also understand the
procedure and its benefits. |

| At the
Office |
| Plan on spending one hour at
the office. I request that you have someone bring you to the
clinic after taking your muscle relaxant, and then have them
available to drive you home. They may stay with you during the
procedure, if you wish. The procedure itself takes
approximately 30 minutes.
When you arrive and register at
the office, you will be taken to the procedure room and have
the surgical area prepared with a surgical scrub and sterile
drapes prior to the procedure. |
